SEO Tip : put the important words in the important places.
Its often said that to get a good ranking your keywords must occur with a specific frequency within the page text. It’s called the “keyword density” and 4% to 8% is often quoted. It’s basically a myth.
I often see sites which are on page one despite the keyword density being well outide this range. Keyword density is just one of many factors used by Google – there are over 200 in all. It’s a mistake, and unnecessary, to make your site content less impressive to humans just to impress Google.
It’s much better to put the important words in the important places. Every piece of writing has some words that are more important than others. In a newspaper article it’s the headline then the sub-headings. On a web page the most important words are the domain name, the page name, the title and the first heading. These are where you put your keywords.
A simple example. Let’s say Smiths Printers wants to rank well for ”printers“. Using the domain smiths-printers.co.uk beats using smithsltd.co.uk. Naming the About Us page about-smiths-printers.htm beats about-smiths.htm. And making the title andheading of the About Us page ”About Smiths Printers“ beats ”About Us“.
